What is dandruff?
Dandruff is what we call the dry skin flakes that have gotten so big that they’re noticeable. Our skin regenerates constantly meaning that we always have some skin flakes. It’s first when they’ve gotten so big that they pose an issue that we start calling them dandruff.
Two things with the same symptom
Dandruff will usually happen because one of two things. The first one is simply a dry scalp. Which can happen because a lot of things, like your soap not being mild enough, the weather being too hot or cold or because your beard transports moisture away from your skin.
The second thing is a kind of fungus that can make the skin produce more skin flakes. If this is what you have your best bet is to visit your local pharmacy and see what products they have for you.
Wash your beard
If you “only” have a dry scalp there are a couple of things you can try to restore the balance. A very simple thing is to check your soap, if it isn’t mild enough that could be the problem. If we’re being completely unbiased, we would recommend Mr Bear Family’s mild beard wash. It contains oat extract (among other great things) that’ll moisturize the beard and the skin.
Use a beard oil
The next step is using a beard oil. Simply put, a beard oil is not only for your beard, it'll also take care of the skin beneath the beard. It moisturises and calms the skin. It’s the fastest way to a healthy beard and moisturised skin.
Get yourself a beard brush
A good beard brush has coarser bristles, most commonly from boars, which helps it distribute the natural oils and products in your beard. It’ll also lift away dust and dirt leaving you with a great looking beard. And it works great on the hair on top of your head as well.
